The Internet Code of Awesome (5 FUNDAMENTALS)
In order for children to make the most of the internet, they need to be prepared to make smart decisions. The "Be Internet Awesome" program gives children the tools and knowledge to play and learn online confidently and safely.
Be Internet Smart
BE INTERNET SMART. Share with Care
Good (and bad) news spreads quickly on the internet, and without thinking first, children can find themselves in difficult situations that have long-term consequences. The solution? Learn to share with those they know and those they don't.
- Responsible Communication
- Encourage thoughtful sharing by treating online communication like real communication. If it's not right to say, it's not right to post either.
- Create guidelines about what kind of communication is appropriate (and what is not).
- Keep personal information about family and friends private.
Be Internet Alert
BE INTERNET ALERT. Don't Fall for Fake
It's important to help children realize that people and situations online are not always as they seem. Distinguishing between real and fake is a real lesson in online safety.
- Know the signs of possible fraud
- If announcements about "winning" or getting something "free" seem too good to be true, they probably are.
- Fair exchanges should not include providing personal information.
- Always think critically before acting online and learn to trust your intuition. Be alert to phishing attempts.
Be Internet Strong
BE INTERNET STRONG. Secure Your Secrets
Personal privacy and security online are as important as offline. Protecting valuable information means thinking about input and output data, being smart about passwords, and understanding your choices.
- Create a strong password
- Make it memorable, but avoid personal information (names, birthdays).
- Use a combination of uppercase, lowercase, symbols, and numbers.
- Change regularly
- Don't use the same password on multiple sites.
- Protect your privacy
- Understand how your personal data is used (and how it's not).
- Use privacy settings to control what you share.
Be Internet Kind
BE INTERNET KIND. It's Cool to Be Kind
The internet is a powerful amplifier that can spread both positive and negative. Children can apply the "treat others as you would like to be treated" principle to have a positive impact and defuse bullying.
- Lead by example
- Use the power of the internet to spread positivity.
- Stop the spread of harmful or false messages by not forwarding them to others.
- Respect others' differences.
- Take action
- Block malicious or inappropriate behavior.
- Make an effort to support those who are being bullied.
- Encourage children to speak up and report online bullying.
Be Internet Brave
BE INTERNET BRAVE. When in Doubt, Talk It Out
One lesson that applies to any digital encounter - when children encounter something suspicious, they should feel empowered to talk to a trusted adult. Adults can support this behavior by encouraging open communication.
- Encourage internet-brave behavior
- Be clear about family or classroom rules and expectations.
- Keep the conversation going by communicating frequently and encouraging children to ask questions.
- Expand the conversation to include other trusted adults (teachers, coaches, relatives).

Exactly because they're already online! This course doesn't add more screen time - it teaches them how to navigate safely, spot scams, protect their privacy, and be kind online. These are life skills they need now.
Most schools don't cover digital citizenship systematically. This is Google's structured program - internationally recognized and specifically designed for kids. It's interactive, game-based, and covers everything from passwords to cyberbullying.
Interland is a free online game that comes with the program. Kids play through challenges that reinforce what they learned - like recognizing phishing or creating strong passwords. It's fun and it sticks.
It's our completion certificate for Google's program, which has ISTE accreditation (that's the big international ed-tech standard). It shows your child completed a quality digital citizenship curriculum.
